Aren't "hipsters" on "fixies" cyclists too?

As you say below...

It ain't what you ride it's the way that you ride it.

Besides what is a cyclist and who are us cyclists?

For a description of what a cyclist is, see this link.

It's already been on another thread.

Thought he was talking about individuals on here. Wrong end of stick ?
The terms POB and BSO frequently crop up in threads on this forum as a Search soon reveals. I consider the terms derogatory, do you not?
(just a polite question, possibly wrong end of stick, I have no wish for a heated debate:smile:)

More to the point, the local hipster has taken handlebar-minimalism to the point where he rides (gloveless, winter) a bike with a bare aluminium tube as a handlebar. No plugs no grips no brakes (no bell). Now is that 'what he rides', or 'the way he rides it'?

They are derogatory,if you take them seriously but I read that groups or individual members on here had been ridiculed.

What? What? Of course this is serious!!

Another thread started today in which we all say we are serious cyclists.

How could we possibly contribute to that one and then come on this one and be frivolous??

That sounds like a Canadian village is missing an idiot. His having escaped on his brakeless 'fixie'. That he rides brakeless means it is a how he rides thing. He is tragic and knows it and thus wants to die an early but poetic death before age withers him.

I'm our local town hipster by the way, but only when I ride my fixed.

But here is the thing ...

If someone, say like me, is a **** because I don't like certain people then just because I ride a bicycle doesn't make me less of a **** does it?
I don't understand your point, but either way I'm not calling anyone anything.

Quite the opposite: categorising people because of how they look and our experience of a minority of that (perceived) group is the sort of generalisation about which we, rightly, complain when it comes from the likes of Clarkson.

A cyclist is someone who cycles.

I've not contributed to the serious cyclist thread. I have enough serious in my life without adding it to my bicycle riding.
