Anyone else look at the map and think I would love a crack at that...

I sit here looking at this world map (bloody big one) we have in our office and Daydream about cycling the world... (should really be doing some work) ;)

I'm doing it! Well, starting with Canada which is a fifth of the way round then if I've been bitten by the touring bug I'll just keep going. I'm leaving in May:biggrin:.

Sadly, I am just left to live it vicariously through others.

Your time will come eventually. I see you've started a journal on Crazyguy for this summer's tour. That'll be fun:becool:. There are some good tips for touring the Netherlands in this week's journal of the week.

I don't yearn for round the world as such - I really don't think I could be bothered with the States for example, or Oz. There are bits I'd like to see. For some reason, Mongolia, and that whole region has a certain pull, although it would be so far outside my current comfort zone.

I do like the idea of pootling off around Europe some day, just go where my nose and a tailwind takes me. Living on an island, it's odd to think that one might start in France and end up in Turkmenistan or something.

I would love to do the world but, unless something dramatic happens, I will never be able to afford the time off work, or the money for the fares/food/accom.

I can push to about 6 weeks though, using unpaid leave and holidays, so an 'across Europe' ride is do-able (in the next few years?). Something like the Danube from the Black Sea to the Black Forest, then the Rhine from the Alps to Rotterdam.

Oh yes, keep tuned and use the guestbook - I'm not the best journal keeper, so need prompts to update.;)

Yes, it is the most planning I do!
All winter I dream as I look at a map of Europe on the kitchen wall, comparing inches/cm on the map between mainland European landmarks and inches/cm between LE and JOG and thinking "that's doable".

I'm also starting around the world in May (6 weeks to go - eek!) although the only record I will be aiming for is the slowest circumnavigation

If you want to do it, do it. Don't just dream it

I am in the very early planning stages of doing a world tour myself. Next summer after I have done my teacher training I will hopefully set off round the world for about a year. I plan to cycle USA, New Zealand, Australia, SE Asia, and Europe.

Wow, I didn't realise we had so many serious tourers on CC. Mind you, I'd never have considered it before I joined. Does that make CC a good or bad influence?
