That's rubbish! I like Evans for kit and parts, but wouldn't buy a bike from them

I'd be demanding the next model or two up for the same price. What hard tails do they have in stock in your size?

Very little actually...well at my price anyway.
Asking about this....they can't 'find' my previous order...awaiting the manager calling me back, he's with a customer.
Told them if I don't get a call by 1pm all hell is gonna let loose!

That's only a big one though in stock. The one you want, is it in another branch maybe, if not in warehouse? Cyclesurgery got my giant from another branch that had it on the shop floor

VERY, VERY unhelpful!!
The 'manager' (on duty manager I may add, not the store manager) and I use that term loosely, was not very sympathetic...he did offer an apology but it wasn't sincere.
He could have got the other bike in for me (link above) but could only say it would be 'sometime' this week.
His attitude was not really caring or helpful and I have lost all confidence with them. People skills my a**!

I've told him I am NOT trailing through to Glasgow yet again and while it may only be £425 to them, to me that's a lot of money!
I want it refunded by phone.
He has said he will have to get the refund by phone authorised by the accounts department <sigh> and will call back.

Not good enough, you ordered on the surnise that they had the bike in stock by tomorrow for you to collect. I'd go with @vickster in demanding the next one up at the same price.
They have after all, taken payment for an item they don't have!

I was wondering this the other day, whether large companies do this on purpose, or are at least purposefully negligent to their sh1te stock control so as to take money, stuff it in their account and make interest from it whilst not releasing any stock.
Would certainly explain why they always need 24hrs to clear a refund / physically need to see the card / need to speak to accounts to get clearance / need to speak to a supervisor etc... It's all extra interest.

In fact @ScotiaLass whilst you are totalling up wasted travelling expenses and phone calls, add in the interest you could have earned. I'm sure there must be some trading standards law you can threaten them with.

Hang on, shouldn't this be tempered with the fact they were extremely helpful with sorting out your initial mistake. I always find staying calm and consistent and staying on their case is the best way to go about this, I mean think about what makes you respond to people, I've met very few people who carried enough menace to make me respond faster than people being reasonable.

@ScotiaLass see http://www.onlineshoppingrights.co.uk/can-website-advertise-items-stock-when-are-not.html

I worked in a shop were items that had been already paid for were sold for a second time, to a seperate person. They were released/placed back onto the system & then resold. Very common practice.

UPDATE
Just back from my LBS.
Fantastic service, very attentive, knowledgeable and interested in what I needed from my bike.
I got to sit on/try out a few and following a discussion with the chap of my riding style etc, I have made a decision.

I'm going in tomorrow to order this pretty little lady...(yes, it's a Specialized 29er)

0028213_specialized_myka_sport_disc_29er_womens_hardtail_mountain_bike_2014_zps7e97606f.jpe

It'll be here within two days and built up the same day it arrives.
He said he will put on any fitments from my old bike that I want transferred over (I mentioned bar ends) and he will put a handlebar riser on for me to raise the bars slightly, if that's what I want.
