Froome's lack of nomination for SPOTY is ridiculous. Winning three Tours puts him up with the greats, but it shows the perception of cycling in the UK compared to other countries. Here it is all about Olympic success and that means track racing, a discipline that is pretty much third division in the traditional cycling strongholds.
Not that it matters much, one month after the event ninety percent of the population couldn't name the winner.
Following all the Lympick success I imagine the track riders were pretty top of the list, and putting Froome in would just stack it with cyclists too much.
Froome has an incredibly low media profile anyway. I don't suppose he's all that bothered. He may never have heard of it.
Which makes it all the more amusing that professional personality free zone Andy Murray is odds on favourite to win. "Britain's greatest ever sportsperson" was just some of the hyperbole from one BCC journo the other day...
