A main road with shops on one side, housing on the other. Ahead of me a car begins indicating to turn right into a side road, pulls into the middle of the main road and slows to a stop. I notice that the driver appears to be courteously allowing someone room to pull out from a parking space near the shops into the busy road before performing their manoeuvre. As the parked car pulls away, I decide to undertake the car waiting to turn right ... which suddenly indicates left instead and swerves into the vacated parking space.
That tested my reactions!
Every ride, I live and learn a little something more - and luckily, today, I got home to write about it here.

Flashing indicators on a vehicle just mean the indicators work. They don't normally tell you anything else.

A few years ago I was here https://goo.gl/maps/Ug7F5PqmnBD2 just starting to spin the fixed up on the top of the descent down past the Craftsman pub,on my right, a descent good for 30 plus, just in front of me was a small hatchback and as it started to pass the craftsman pub it started to indicate to turn right into Rotherham road whilst pulling right up against the white centre line, all of a sudden my spider senses started to twitch, I could sense something was wrong, I didn't know what but something wasn't right, and I started to back off, it was a good job I did as when he got to the point where he should have turned right he switched to a left turn signal and turned left into the car park in front of the shops. even with backing off I still tested my koolstops hauling it down to a stop, if I hadn't backed off I would have been a lot closer and more than likely ploughed into him as he turned.

Experience + learning + alertness.

probably, I haven't a clue how it works I'm just grateful I've got them, over the last 20-25 years they've saved my arse on a number of occasions.

Yeah. It feels like sixth sense, but you have probably noted the driver's posture, head movements, some hesitation, etc. All instinctively.
