ASLs never had that happen before...

Ah level with front wheel, thought you meant from 10 yards back. No that happens all the time. Happened to me last night, three times (and there aren't many ASLs in Sheffield).

I thought similar. I think I've only had a car (probably a taxi) try to squeeze me out once I'm in an ASL. That probably because I don't use them all the time and ignore the feeder lanes when I do.

Yip that happens all the time james, taxi's are the worst offenders here. The other similar one is pulling into the cycle lane to try and stop you passing ;)

I don't usually bother with ASLs unless I'm at the front anyway, but if someone deliberately blocks the way or overtakes right at the lights, it's a bit like a red flag and I get to the ASL even if I have to wheel the bike on the pavement  and once I'm there, I my start off gets very slow and wobbly ;)

I know that feeling, I don't usually bother with ASL's either generally but have seen the red mist and behaved similary.

Advanced stop lines see rule 178 Highway Code "Motorists, including motorcyclists, MUST stop at the first white line reached if the lights are amber or red".

I have seen a fair number of motorist break the law on this, I have also had driver deliberately pull into the cycle lane to try and stop me from using it. I simple overtake on the off side instead...

How sensible is it, though, to go in front of a moton who is determined to get past you, and irritated with you? I've certainly done it, but I know it's not sensible.

What really annoys me is when you are coming to ASL and you can't get to the ASL because they are to close to the curb and you either have to stop or try to squeeze past

Usually it's better to overtake, then your path to the ASL is rarely blocked.

He was probably looking at the light sequence on the other side of the junction and didn't even realise you were coming up the inside. The creep forwards was probably in anticipation of this.

Isn't that why pedals are made of metal?

Doesn't bother me, tbh. I wait in line when they do that. When it comes to it, those silly buggers are stewing away in a nasty little metal box, and I'm on my bike.

If its safe, I just go a bit further forward (paying due consideration to pedestrians of course). I have tried saying something but you generally get ignored. Motorbikes seem to think they apply to them too

What happens if you can't get through on the left because you are being blocked and then you overtake on the right and misjudge the queue of traffic and end up in "no man's land" - do you just hope that somebody lets you in?

Do most of you go in between the queue of traffic and the kerb as a rule though?

I always go on the inside but only if it's clear - if it's blocked up to the ASL I tend to just wait in the queue.

I do quite a lot of waiting around to be honest! .. need to perfect my technique!!
