I'm sure you're right Meta Ion. Not sure I'll bother calling myself. I'll call British Cycling first, and see if their legal helpline can assist.

Don't let yourself be fobbed off, go for the throat. Things like that may seem a laugh to the idiots who do it but it is bloody frightening when you are the victim and shatters your confidence.

Out walking the dog some years back when I lived in Hornchurch I took an apple full in the chest from a passing car. Had I got hold of the bloke in the immediate aftermath I'd probably still be doing time now.

I won't Joe. When I was 18 I was knocked off by an oncoming white van which swerved towards me. A few years later I had stuff chucked at me from a passing car.

Enough is enough.

Also be mindful that any of your social media comments may be used in court so think about what you are commenting on. All the best and keep us informed.

I'd ask for his insurance details too. If the assault part struggles because he claims "I didn't know what he was going to do, I don't want to get him into trouble" the civil insurance claim for your injuries might hurt him instead...

At least they didn't hit your son as well. They must have some sense of decency though that's no excuse for their moronic actions! They've probably seen the roadside idiots in the TdF slapping and touching the riders and thought this kind of behaviour is acceptable.

My son has much more experience in these matters than me and last summer, we were cycling on part of the route about to be used in the TdF above Harrogate when a car drew alongside us and the front seat passenger threw at full force, a plastic bowl containing cereal and milk which hit him right on his side and covered him in the detritus the driver wanted to chuck at him! I was enraged that someone should do that to my son (even though he's a fully grown man, that protectiveness never goes away) and called them to come back and face me. They were too cowardly and zoomed off so we never saw them again. I'd taken their number and make of vehicle (5 series BMW) and informed my son I was calling the police but he told me not to bother. He'd had an actual fist fight with a car driver when out cycling one day and the police got involved but were worse than useless. They were obstructive, time-wasting and non-productive so following that, he would only get the police involved if it was very serious as he's found it more hassle than it's worth.

My first experience of McDonald's was when I was 13 years old and some w@nk3r threw a strawberry milkshake over me from a car when I was about 15 miles from home on a solo bike ride. It was a sticky ride back and to make things worse, my Mother banned solo rides for a few weeks. This was more than 25 years ago, but I remember it very clearly.
