I used to assume that when my [then] teenage daughter rang to say she and 3 friends had missed the last Metro and couldn't afford taxi and wanted picking up from the centre of town at 1 o'clock in the morning that she would be where she said she'd be and ready to come home when I got there....

I always assumed Bognor Regis was in Scotland, it sounded vaguely Scottish.

Ha ha!! I wish it was.. I ride through the wretched place way to much:laugh:

Well that's because you allowed her to assume that (b) you would turn out and (c) you would wait, she already having assumed that (a) you wouldn't tell her to catch the taxi, pay the driver for her when she got home, and then bill her afterwards!

That's because I used to a) be happy to collect her, so that b) I knew she was safe because c) there are some dodgy unregistered taxis driving round late at night... and d) I'm cheaper than a taxi!

and, while I'm on.... e) Happy Christmas Colin!

Ah yes - I don't like the sound of teenage girls and unregistered taxis!

(I was just as bad with my dad. I would often still be getting ready 25 minutes after he went out to the car to give me a lift to town!)

Happy Christmas to you too, and anyone else reading this!

(I have just been invited to go to a friend's house for mince pies and mulled wine so that's probably it now for me this evening.)

I once assumed that a battery said 9.0V before I put my tongue on the terminals.

It turned out to be a 90 volt battery for the HT circuit of a valve radio with plenty of charge left.

 then

Not so much an assumption, but I still get a terrible sense of unease when I see cows in fields right near the sea. It just seems wrong, somehow.
What about when they are actually in the sea?

As a kid, i always assumed the Falklands were islands in Scotland. I know different now of course, but i never did figure out why they were talking about the Falklands in the first place in the eary 1970's !!!

I also always assumed (even until i was in my 20s) that Stevie Wonder just wore sunglasses...i was truly, truly gobsmacked when i found out he was blind
