Definitely normalise this database. It's really easy to do, but you might need to spend a little bit of time reading up on it.

You'll be able to use your current data if you do normalise it.

Normalising is fine notion if the user has the time and resources to afford to play with the database to get it right. There a large leap between data input and relational database design.

...depending on the nature of the data and the degree of normalisation you're aiming for. But yeah, make sure everything's normalised first, and you'll be much better off.

Unfortunately I have not got the resources to play with the database. I can "borrow" a lap top computer when I am there*, and two of us try to catalogue as many books as is reasonably possible in four hours. We are now approximately half way through. I know that we are not needing a database with relational formulae. Which is fortunate I am not competent enough to set one up like that.

It does not need to be complex. We just need to be able to compile a report on which books are in which catagories, ie Paper Making suitable for children, as opposed to Batik in Native American Art (just two examples which I have made up).

* My computer here at home does not have the same application on it, so I cannot experiment at home.
