Do you know someone who is Autosol dependent? Do you find it impossible to walk past a piece of aluminium without wanting to polish it? Here's Mike's story (name has been changed to protect his identity):

"It all started innocently enough with recreational use of T-cut, and then Brasso, but these were just gateway polishes. Soon I was on a 750ml tin a day; I was ignoring my wife and children, and sneaking out to the garage for another line of 'the white stuff', but even then I thought I could handle it".

"It was when I started 'freebasing' the stuff on a mop polisher, that I realised I had a problem. That was when I found out about 'Autosol Addicts Anonymous'. I started their 9 step program and now I take it one bike at a time".

Next time you find yourself sneaking off to your "man cave" for just one more rub on the "white junk" it's probably time to get some help!

My advice would be, if you have dyslexia, do not keep your metal polish anywhere near the Anusol.

It really stings.

Autosol? That's for softies!! What us addicts really crave is a polishing machine, an assortment of mops, a range of compounds from coarse down to Jeweller's Rouge !! Wonderful way to pass half a day!!

On Charles Bridge in Prague, there's a statue with a couple of brass plaques that people rub in specific places for luck / photo op, so it has small shiny patches:

On a stag do last year I remarked to my friend how much fun it would be to turn up in the middle of the night with a tube of Autosol .

Anyway, Autosol's great stuff. I use it to clean mass spectrometers.

I don't polish or cleans things as often as I should so no autosol dependency here.

I think it's the results of aversion therapy from my granny making me polish her ridiculous collection of silver and brass ornaments as a kid!

Has anybody noticed that Brasso has a different smell? They must have substituted something else for the white spirit. Quite an unpleasant smell now. I did, though, manage to buy a new can of the old stuff, which must have been new old stock.
