Hey folks,

Came across these racks on the web whilst looking for panniers. At only £20 delivered they seem abit of a bargain. I realise they are alu and not steel, but they are rated to hold 25kg - I wouldn't even be using half of that so can't see how there would be any problem in not being robust enough. I

Does anyone have any experience/ knowledge of them?

Thanks,

Rich

Had a look at some Tubus racks, the like of the Tara have a rating of only 15kg (which sounds more sensible anyway) but the avenir is 25kg. Don't see why they'd stipulate that much if the top makes only state 15kg and they weren't capable of more?

Would there be any reason not to go for the avenir? apart from reputation that is

All cheap aluminium lowrider racks have a nasty reputation for breaking. Of course, that would not happen immediately, so you may be lucky, depending on your use. My advise would be Tubus or Old Man Mountain. The alternative would be to take less and spend the money you save by not buying a front rack and front panniers to lighten your load and make it more compact. That will not work on an expedition tour to the other end of the world, but if you want to do that, you should not buy cheap racks in the first place. Really, you don't need front racks for a European camping trip (unless you are the family mule, of course).

Ricd, Avenir are stocked in Go Outdoors on the Bilston Road in Wolverhampton.

I use one of their rear racks on my commuter, it's as good as the Blackburn on my tourer. Might be worth ringing to see if they've got one in and go and have a look at the quality.

actually, I just returned a set of the front racks (Axiom Journey 2 Low-rider Front Rack). Didn't fit my husband's bike properly - in fact we couldn't even get them anywhere near fitting, despite the spacers that were included, as the bolts supplied were way too long. I couldn't be bothered to muck around so just sent them straight back. the two racks were also wrongly marked left and right.

Can't comment on their performance though.
