Lots!
More than 10, but can't recall all of them, some I'm always having to stop for, some are rarely a problem. Only a 6mi commute so probably about 2-3 / mile.

I think I am very lucky.

My commute is 5.5 miles with only 4 sets of traffic lights, one of them a ped crossing, the route is a combination of road and cycle path.

That works out on average one set of lights for every 1.3 miles.

Is this a record?

Nope. I have no traffic lights at all - not even a pedestrian crossing - in 12 miles.

On the bike, I have two. One crossing on a trunk road at the point where a bridleway emerges onto it. I come down the bridleway, use the crossing and then I'm then onto roads across a housing estate after that. There's also a pelican crossing just up the road from where I work and I sometimes have to wait there for a ped to cross.

In the car, there's 9 junctions and 2 ped crossings.

I like my bike route best.

Not to sure?
Not a single set, then again I don't even see a main road either.

Plus if I see more then half a dozen cars for the whole combined journey then its considered busy!

I'm currently doing 15miles in the morning, and there are 34. The last 4 are less than 300m total distance, but can take 6mins 20 seconds if I catch them out of phase  I count them as my warm down.

Let's all do a little experiment.

You know how fast you can cruise. You know the distance of your commute. You've counted the traffic lights.

Firstly, calc the time it would take if you didn't have to stop.

Count all the other junctions and the all the uphill contours ( and Zebra crossings ).

Add on 1% for each TL, J, ZC or uphill contour.

How does this compare with reality?
