I used to have a driving job that entailed travelling round the Northumberland countryside through the night. I ran rabbits over every night without fail, no way was I going to swerve to avoid them and risk a more serious accident.

That's fair enough, but the issue here is swerving to hit them!

Hmmm. Nasty, there really are some horroble folk out there. At least it's rare that this sort of thing happens. It doesn't matter if you're a townie or not, it's not pleasant to experience wherever you are from. Hope you feel much better soon after say, a glass or two and some virtual hugs from CC folks hereabouts.

Well theres no proof either way, maybe there was other traffic, maybe he/she was being cautious because there was a cyclist.

.

There was no other traffic, he/she was not cautious of me when he/she overtook so I doubt he'd/she'd be cautious once I was well behind him/her:angry:

I fully understand there is not always the ability to avoid things like this, such as when swerving could cause an accident, and I cant swear that they swerved to aim for it-just that it very much looked like they did.

But if you have a shred of humanity in you then you at least make sure that what you have run over is dead.

I have just seen the most horrible thing ever.
Whilst out on my bike, a car passed me and as he drove off I saw a rabbit run out of the hedge and into the road. This absolute T**T of a driver actually swerved to make sure he ran it over.

To be honest I don't know so im not about to hammer the guy.

Again, fair enough, but I'm in no position to doubt what Lisa wrote/witnessed!

It's more likely he swerved in an attempt to avoid it. We shouldn't do it (it risks a serious accident), but it's an instrinctive thing.

Well we go from 'This twat of a driver swerved to hit it' to 'I cant swear that they swerved to aim for it-just that it very much looked like they did.'

You cant have it both ways;)

I'd give the driver the benefit of the doubt, it's more likely that he was trying to miss it. Poor bunny.

Reminds me of an incident at school. A guy in my year lived on a farm. Sitting in the lounge his girlfriend was giving him looks and he was looking sheepish. As I sat down I asked them what was going on.

They had been out the night before and as they drove up the track towards the farm a rabbit ran out in front of them. Kenny wanted it for the pot so swerved to try and hit it! But instead of the rabbit, he hit a tree! Wrecked his dad's car! Rabbit's revenge :0)

I saw a similar thing with a dog just around the corner from my house. It ran out in front of a coach, the guy braked hard but smacked it hard. The poor dog was lying on the road burst open, you could see it's heard beating, but it was still alive. The driver just wanted it out of the way so that he could get on so he lifted it to the side of the road, it didn't survive being carried.

Considering I had just got in after seeing a disembowelled and partially squashed animal trying to drag itself away to safety, and I was very upset, I may have over reacted with my accusation of him swerving to hit it although I stand by what I said about it bl**dy well looking like that is what they did.

I also stand by what I said that if someone hasnt got anything nice to say then not to bother posting.

Lisa you are clearly a sensitive person with a love of animals and its not that i was getting at.

I certainly haven't said anything unkind about you, merely that the circumstances may be different to your interpretation.

I know, and agree, I think im still a bit upset about it. Group hug?

Oh hun...that's horrible.
You now have two choices:
1. To believe that he deliberately swerved to hit it, which will leave you angry and upset for sometime to come, or
2. To believe that he didn't mean to hit it, or maybe thought it had myxy, and that he was doing it a favour, or was distracted by something else, etc etc, which will at least give you the chance to let it go, and hopefully not be as disappointed in your fellow man.

You'll never know what the driver intended, so you might as well go with the second choice for your own sake.
