To get the last bit of the tyre on the rim, (20" rims and marathon plus) I use something similar to the Park Tool PTS1 - Tyre Seating Tool

One trick that helps especially if you've not had to remove the tyre for a while is to work it all around the rim before attempting to take it off. The first bit is easy, so you just do that all around, stretching the bead a bit. Only then do you try to take the whole tyre out. Makes a huge difference especially with my Marathon Plus which are a nightmare to remove.

Got the bike home and a good mate of mine came round to put me straight.

Well blow me down, as they don't say round here, the front was flat as well. :cursing:

A thorn was embedded in the tyre so my spare tube went on that. My mate has 50 years of cycling behind him and he struggled as much as I did the other day. We succumbed to using a VAR lever to get the last bit over. Went out to buy some new tubes as the one I fitted on Friday was nipped and had a 6mm split.
Three new tubes bought, one fitted and the bike was cleaned and lubed and new pedals fitted. Looks very well, may just have to go out tomorrow.

I have now got three reusable cable ties in my saddlebag and the VAR levers, just hope I never need them :bicycle:
