If every pedestrian greeted you as they walk past you'd soon complain.
.
This is a village. I did say the Fen lanes were quiet, so its not as if you would be inconveinienced. 99% of pedestrians do say 'hello' when they walk by, whether I'm on my bike or walking. Personally I like it that way.

Fortunately we live in a democracy and other people are not obliged to acknowledge my presence, nor me them if I find them in difficulties farther up these very quiet roads. (I'm so sickeningly nice I would stop anyway)

Oh dear. That's a bit provocative. Better duck.

no, that is the correct etiquette. if you see someone in front of you, you sneak up behind them, slipstream for a minute or so until you get your breath back then pedal past them to make it appear you always ride at fifty billion miles per hour .... then keep looking back over your shoulder and praying that they will turn off so they won't catch you up.

at no point do you speak.

I think it works both ways.

Number of times I have nodded or smiled to another cyclist who is not in the fanboy gear like me and got looked straight through me

I'm still trying to cancel out all the double negatives....

I was attempting to pass through the negative to the imaginary side of grammatical errors.

I overtake lots of cyclists on the roads and don't say anything as i breeze past.... Why? Because I'd feel arrogant. "Hey look at me going faster than you.. slowcoach!" is what a 'hello' feels like.

Of course on the cycletracks or canal tow path it's different, it's narrow, overtakes are more cautious and usually involve a ping of the bell, then they get a 'thanks' as I pass.

Is it me, or are some folk just downright rude?

Poodling around the quiet Fen lanes, some cyclists WILL insist on riding up silently behind me and then overtaking at speed, disappearing into the distance without a word.

Personally I think this is rude. A simple 'Hi there' or 'Hello' would be nice. They may be riding expensive bikes and be uber fit, but a little common curtesy and friendliness would brighten my day.

Just saying :-(

Sometimes I say hello sometimes I don't its not a big deal
