I have dismantled my hub on a very old Scott MTB (about 16 years). It looks like I need to replace the ball-bearings.

Are there different sizes of ballbearings and where do I obtain a set from - I am not sure what make the wheel is but the cassette is a 9 speed Shimano.

I cant see anything on Wiggle or CRC?

Visit your local industrial bearing supplier, or search on the web. They will be able to supply provided you carefully measure the old ones. If you mean the ball races, there will usually be a code inscribed on one of the rings.

3/16 of an inch front and 1/4 inch rear. You'll get them at any bike shop although an industrial supplier will sell you a lifetimes supply for not too much especially if you only change then every 16 years.

Thanks guys for your replies & advice.

I will get some of the ones recommended in the link.

Whilst its 16 years old I didn't ride it for a lot of that time having only just got back into cycling. However, it does make an interesting comparison for how bikes have changed over the last 16 years!
