Not until now.

It makes me think splinters, the cane and panda's teeth. How can such a thing be silky?

Because you're thinking of dried canes mostly. Remember it's a plant and therefore starts out soft and fibrous.

Yes, I have a bamboo T-shirt purchased at last year's CTC rally. From memory, it was only about £15 which I thought was very reasonable. It's very comfy.

Bamboo is amazingly versatile it seems. It can be used for so many things bicycles ,bird cage, boats. food, weapons, and clothes.

Bamboo clothing may not be a good idea.
It isn't made of woven bamboo fibres (like linen), as you might think. Instead, bamboo pulp is used as a feedstock for a chemical process which produces something very similar to rayon. The process uses caustic soda, and other chemicals, which are not good for the environment.
Unless the bamboo is grown organically or sustainably, and unless the chemical waste is somehow reduced or recycled, there is no advantage over other synthetic fibres.

Thanks for that. Very interesting.

Anyway, anyone any good at design? Was thinking of ordering some bamboo tops with a unique design, advertising what they are.

Was thinking of a large picture showing some bamboo stalks, and on the LHS a Panda (Giant, prefer the Red Panda, living in Birmingham, but much less iconic) book-ending the bamboo and eating some, with the legend underneath "Yes, it IS bamboo".

Thoughts?

I liked the idea but changed my mind when I read about the process. I'm sticking to hemp and nettle clothing both of which are fibre based and the processing is simpler.

I find bamboo clothing a little too rigid for my liking.
Hemp clothing makes me chilled, and I got stung for some nettle base layers once!
