I'm about to do a 300 mile tour - my first. I've got a hybrid, which I really like, and it has bar ends.

I don't think I use them particularly well, though and I'm wondering whether I should keep them, change them or change position.

Should they be horizontal? They came with the bike and are at about 45 deg.

Should I change them? They're short and straight. Is that ok?

Should I take them off altogether?

Any advice welcome. We'll be going up hills and mountains in Harris.

Put them at an angle that you find most comfortable, its always good to be able to change hand position.

I would suggest fitting them so your wrists remain straight from your arms and relaxed when holding the bar ends, especially if you are going long distance. Obviously this will vary from person to person.

If your handlebar allows it, you can mount them inboard of the grips/gearshifters for a "poor man's aerobar" position.

+1 for keeping the bar ends. I use them more than the standard bars after fitting them about a week ago. Great for cruising and tackling hills and taking the strain out of your wrists and hands on long rides. Good luck with your tour.
