thinking of upgrading my crankset from a campag centaur compact to a fsa k force compact how do i recognise what bottom bracket thread it is english or italian? and just for the record what is the difference between the two?

I asked the LBS. However, you can usually google the question, presuming you know the basic details of your frame. Most are English. Even my Bianchi was English.

Slight difference in diameter and thread

ISO/English or BSA 1.37 in x 24 TPI 34.6-34.9 mm Cup diameter Left-hand thread drive side
Italian 36 mm x 24 TPI 35.6-35.9 mm Cup Diameter Right-hand thread both sides

Oh, and the Italian ones are more stylish
