BB7 pad spring - does it need changing every time?

So, I took the pads out of my BB7 disc brake caliper, in order to accurately check the thickness. And of course the spring went boing and is lost in my garden. Turns out the pads have got plenty of wear left.

I have a spare pair of pads, so used the spring from that. When I eventually get round to using those, how important is it to replace the spring every time? It seems hard/impossible to find the spring on its own.

Thanks.

No, old spring is fine. I always use old spring at least 2 or 3 times. As a result, I’ve always got new spares lying about.

You usually get a new spring in each pack of pads. If old one isn't damaged then you can re-use it. If you run yuor pads down too far the spring can get damaged

The spring is a good indicator that you have done just that. They make an awful racket when the spring scrapes the rotor.
