"Detectives now want to speak to a man named Paul in connection with the attack. Paul is described as white, in his late 30s, 6ft tall with a distinctive Roman nose and dark brown greying hair in a curtain style. He is known to be a retro bike enthusiast."

Blimey, don't ride your fixie with the brooks saddle through Brighton tonight !

Perhaps its nothing to do with a car door, he could just be a tosser.
Even if he was 'doored' he is still a t***er. Nothing excuses gratuitous violence against another road user.

Some years ago another road user landed a punch on me as I was cycling. No provocation whatsoever. It did me no harm - in fact it hardly hurt at all, being a glancing blow. But what if I had taken the punch more squarely, what if I was now the one lying on my back in a coma with tubes in my nose...? You never know what's going to happen if you hit someone. Shouting, swearing even, may be bad, but it won't kill anyone.

Once I was doored and ended up in much the same state as this poor guy. 2 wrongs, though.. I hope this person does the right thing and gives himself up as I am sure they'll get him anyway.

Racism is no longer acceptable so people need other groups to have a pop at. As such, if you are a religious ginger cyclist, then you're fooked.

As a (non) religious, ginger haired recumbent cyclist with a beard...... I think I need some Grecian 2000!

More seriously...

There was one poster in the Argus, and assuming he is genuine, gave assistance and has acted as a witness.

The problem is that the BBC and reports are still misleading.
They continue to talk about a group of cyclists when the eye witness clearly states they happened to be non associated cyclists who were simply on the same piece of road. The "group cycled off" is equally suspect as it is possible that it happened behind these other cyclists who were unaware of events.

Both statements give an inaccurate and undeserved negative slant

Finally the problem is again the headlines. Now we know that road rage by cyclists is rare and hence newsworthy, but misses the point totally that it was probably a yob who happened to be on a bike and would have reacted similarly if he had been a pedestrian, driver or other form of transport

I do feel sorry for the guy in the car.

The argus is really a shite excuse for a newspaper & is only (barely) useful for lighting fires. As with all papers, it will skew the report & for the argus, anyone on a bike is fair game.

Brighton & Hove is one of the cycling cities yet hasn't done anyting to promote cycling simply because they want people to use buses & taxis & since the taxis are the worst culprits for dangerous driving, people don't cycle.

It's getting beyond a joke, really, this "CYCLISTS ARE ALL THE SAME" nonsense.

And

[/i][/size]

I may be being paranoid, but I can't imagine any other group of people being described in such a way - that is, lumped together as a monolithic block.

White van man?
Audi drivers?
BMW drivers?
Boy racer?
School Run Mum?

It is an unfortunate fact that there exists a substantial minority of people who are too thick to analyze situations objectively and judge on a case-by-case basis, so need to resort to stereotypes to do the thinking for them. Until evolution advances to the point where these people, by virtue of their own stupidity, are deemed too undesirable to have sex with we are stuck with it.

On a side note I remember something about Cycling England asking for the money back from B&H (sounds like a packet of fags). Bristol and Exeter atleast spend most of the money but they all seemed to have struggled. Perhaps due to local opposition.

Here for rides.
that it was probably a yob who happened to be on a bike and would have reacted similarly if he had been a pedestrian, driver or other form of transport

except, regrettably it wasn't. The person charged is a foafoaf, fairly well known around that area and a keen cyclist so I understand from friend and family thereabouts.
