Sorry forgot to mention that I since found out that you are entitled to open your door in France without looking, as if anyone crashes into it, it is their responsibility. Apparently, still constitutes as being a stationary vehicle!!

Two people opened doors on me today, both apologised as well - luckily I wasn't riding in the door zone and I left enough room so I didn't have to swerve and I was able to hold my line.
