I have some Elderberry wine that I made in 1984. It tastes better with age.

My in-laws text me yesterday to say they've opened the 2001 vintage bottle of mixed fruit wine I gave them *counts* eleven years ago, they said it tastes like fine dry sherry.

I thought that a can of beer would stay drinkable indefinitely, so drunkenly left one outside out of reach in 2007, its still there but has gone rusty looking despite being aluminium. I don't think itll be safe to drink!

I threw out the last of the British Army RatPack pâté tins only a couple of months ago, they were fine to eat last time I tried one but having been in our cupboard for at least five years I did not think we would ever eat them.

My mum still has a small tin of Fortnum & Mason smoked mussels from a hamper she was given in the early 70s. I remember wanting to eat them then, but Mum nursed a massive distrust of shellfish. Anyone up for a slightly risky challenge?

How anyone can admit to on a public forum letting a beer sit for that long without being consumed is sinful. That just wouldn't happen here in Canada. Even American beer (ugh) has it's uses.

a lot of tinned goods last for years as long as they're kept cool and dry!

What brand of beer?

Some drinks cans are steel, not ali, so that would explain the rust. The way to tell is to look at the bottom of the can. If it's shiny (under the muck!), it's ali, if it's a matt grey, it's steel.

I've got a bottle of 'moonshine' this French guy we knew gave to my dad and then he gave to me, we've had it for about 30-odd years now but I'm too scared to open it.

Clearing out my nans house after she passed away in 1990, several of us menfolk opened the cupboard where nan and granddad kept the bottlles. Well they were both non-drinkers but would politely accept a bottle if someone gave it as a gift, then store it away to gather dust in the cupboard. Anyway my dads brother was the total opposite and really enjoyed a drink, so coming across this aladdins cave was a dream.
.He quickly fetched out a dusty old botlle of brandy exclaiming that it was a shame to throw it away, and duly cracked it open and poured us all a drink. Now i'm guessing these bottles hadn't seen the light of day for at least 20 years , needless to say several more followed out of the dusty old cupboard and all seemed to taste fine..as far as i can remember

I think it's just a can of Carling, sat on a low roof in direct sunlight/rain/snow for 5 years, i've not checked it's there in months ill have a look tomorrow
