On the subject of the market I was looking for a tailor/sewing shop that could do an ad-hoc job for me (bike bag, see this thread http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/handlebar-bag-or-seatpost-bag.95828/#post-1728863) so if anyone knows of one in the leeds/west yorkshire area let me know. The fabric shops and button shops couldnt help.
This maybe wildly off-target - aye, and really vague

I'm thinking the sewing job is kinda heavy duty for a "fabricky" type place? Have you tried a shoe repairer/leather repairs type of place. Or an upholsterer? They'd be more likely to have the heavy duty needles and stuff?

Edited to add - any use? http://www.jillingsbaddeley.co.uk/services.htm, http://www.abbeyupholstery.co.uk/diy.htm, http://www.craggs-shoerepairs.co.uk/shop/equestrain-equipment-repairs/ (stitching jobs!).

It is heavy duty yes, the instructions I have mentioned the guy ended up having to give up on the electric machine and turn the wheel himself!

Cheers for the links, will check them out:thumbsup:

The first thing I need to get better at is weights - I'm rubbish at estimating what I need as I've come home with 4 x the carrots I needed, was too embarrassed to tell him to put some back when I saw how much 2lbs of carrots were. Guess I'll have good eyesight at the end of the week.
carrot cake??

I suppose the only disadvantage I can see is I cant go back until next week, but there is another market near to where I work I can use at lunch if I do need anything.
sounds great!

I'm thinking Carrot Wine actually - need to get some wheat and citric acid as I've run out. It makes a very strong, medium dry white that although they say to leave bottled for 12 months is actually drinkable after 3 months or so:cheers:

for any leather or heavy fabric work i go to a very nice old couple in the village, that run a internet mail order made to order er goods.:shy: from there house/work shop. some of the members of a motorbike club put me on to them as they do alterations and repairs in there gear.

i tend to go through the market on my way home from the office about 3:20 on a Wednesday and can end up struggling to get up the hill with all the veg and fruit, i get, for £3 or £4 being very well known to a lot of the traders in my former job helps i think.
it is well worth getting to know the traders, the ones i go to know what end of day deals i go for and have it mostly ready for me as i trundle up on the trike.

Used to go to the fantastic Doncaster market when I lived up there. And still do when we visit my dad's for the weekend. I don't have one near here but go to Coventry every few months and theirs is OK and has a home brew stall for when I'm back on the drink . (We also have a decent home brew shop 7 miles from us.)

I miss going to the market for fresh fruit and veg. It's not the same at a supermarket. And as for our local farmer's market . Over priced meat, sausages, pies and cheeses. I've tried some and not been impressed at all so avoid it.

My carrot recipe is to fry up one onion with some butter/oil; add some carrot and ginger (500g carrot, 2Tbsp fresh ginger), add stock (c. 900ml) to cover; add 1 Tbsp honey. Boil till tender & puree; yum.
