On the way home last night, I got flashed by three cars, not to let me out but I think to suggest my front light was too bright.

I have a Hope Vision 2, it was set to 3 out of 4 in terms of brightness as I am on unlit roads, its pointed down and to the left to avoid dazzling drivers and so I can see the surface, I need it to see where I am going, are they trying to tell me that it's too bright, should I just think they can p1ss off as how can my little battery light possibly be brighter than the massive retina searing Xenons headlamps as fitted to the Merc that flashed me ?

A ped did say "We only need to see you" as she stepped out into the road with her dog, the irony of her having stepped out, having not seen me was lost on her, as was the fact I need to see where I am goign as well !

Yes, that conclusion could be drawn from the title, but sadly no ladies have exposed themselves to me, obviously I would report it to the Police if that happened as I used to work there and they would love to see the pictures.

The faint possibility of it happening is another good reason to have a good, bright light, though.

But then I would suspect that it's more generally men that flash (or at least they're the ones that seem to make the news for this) so maybe riding without lights would be useful too...

Cue Lee with some comments about how safe and good this is...

Get an airhorn, and beep them if they flash you.

I'd be very much inclinded towards sarcasm as anyone telling me a light was too bright though., something like "well, I like seeing where I'm going, offroading isn't my style"

I got shouted at the other night by another dick cyclist to turn my lights down.

I had a Knog gekko on flashing and a fenix on its lowest setting always pointed at the tarmac 10ft ahead.

The funniest part to this story is the idiot who shouted it had no light on the front but was wearing a dayglo yellow jacket......... some use at night .

What a kn0b:tongue:

I had a copper walk up to me at traffic lights once. I thought he was going to give me grief about my light but he just said, "that's the brightest light I've ever seen. See ya" and wandered off.
It's a 550 Lumen HID. By no means the brightest any more, when you look at the 1500 Lumen LED setups you can now get. Bright enough to make motorists think twice though.

I reckon FAR more women Flash than men, just men make the news. I guess no one complains when its a woman flashing. Thats purely based on personal experience having only twice been "mooned" by guys and having had lots of women "flash" various bits at me over time.

I masked the top third of my lights when I was using my powerful set-up after being flashed a few times.

I think the problem is that bike lights are at the drivers eye level. With my dinotte light its easy to dip it slightly when cycling in traffic, and then tilt it back horizontal again when on unlit track.

I had a guy in the opposite traffic queue shout ''ave you got enough lights" - by the time I could respond he'd gone...... the answer whould be 'obviously not when I got run over recently'......

Hmm...I plan to get a couple of fenix's for next winter.....assuming I'm rding another bike by then - one can hope....

I'm currently sporting some of those smart led lights which I can just about see by but I still get drivers coming the other way putting their lights on full beam( this really really pisses me off). What I need are some really bright retina burning lights which I can turn right up for these fun ocassions and when its an unlit road.
WHat sort of stuff is available out there which isn't silly money?

Fenix PD30s are pretty good and go for around £43. They use CR123 batteries but these are available as rechargeables.
