Had an incident that started with a SMIDSY. Riding at the same speed as the traffic I sit in primary, doing 30mph with a safe gap with the car in front and I also notice that the traffic is slowing. Being in primary also gives me options if anything should go wrong. I try to have as many escape routes as I can for any given traffic situation, which worked out to be my saving grace. As I approach a junction I see a blue car pull out into my path, I shout at the driver to stop, but he just keeps on pulling out. When he was pulling out, I was beyond the point where I could brake safely to a stop. I had to take evasive action to go around the car whilst braking hard. Due to being in a good position I had two options, nearside or offside. The nearside was an option as it was a small car (Micra sized) and had squeezed out enough to make passing the nearside possible. Offside became a non option due to cars in the opposite direction using the refuge to turn right. I dove down the nearside whilst emergency braking and trying to keep the bike under control.

The driver then had to slow for the traffic in front. As a result of this I ended up in front of this driver. I then had to recreate my safety bubble, so I indicated for the driver to stay back as I matched the speed of the traffic in front, which by this time had slowed right down.

I caught up with this driver further down the road at the lights, I asked him what was going though his mind. He had shut his windows and decided to blank me. However there were a number of other motorists who decided to butt in with their condescending answers saying why was I in the middle of the road, etc.... Although I am not too pleased with my answer though, not going to write it as it is unprintable on a public forum.

Should have said I going as fast as you couch potatoes in your cars, that's why. I assume it was something along the same lines, but more 'fruity'

I'm glad you're OK. Sounds like your sensible road positioning prevented a collision.

As for the other driver, what a numpty. But even worse are the others who decided to chip in. This is a perfect example of how some drivers (not all) see the roads as being for cars and that cyclists are at best grudgingly accepted. If the same incident had caused a car to have to swerve to avoid a collision I'm sure they would have been berating the driver who pulled out.

Speaking as a professional driver, I find cyclists annoy me fairly frequently. Although the ones that annoy me are the ones that cower at the side of the road and don't claim their road space. If I'd been there I'd have stuck up for you.

Sounds like you came across a right bunch of mongtards who because a cyclist is in front, simply must overtake.

I found out that mentality extends to even the police when I was pulled over by an officer who couldn't overtake me without him having to speed to get past me.... I was travelling at 30mph... in steady moving traffic...

The same bunch basically must get in front of *anything* they perceive as slow. My mate had this a lot in his Landrover, it was one of these modified offroad ones and was tuned somewhat. He'd be cruising along on the dual carriageway and people whould see the Landrover, put their foot down a little bit, pull out to overtake and seem to take forever to do it. When they pulled in they'd realise they were doing 90 (ahem) or whatever and then slow down so he'd have to overtake them again.

I noticed it a lot when I first bought a people carrier, a Zafira. I'd be travelling at an appropriate speed, and people wanting to be out of side roads *absolutely must* get out in front of me, whatever the cost seemingly. Luckily I got used to it and would anticipate it but ffs. Thing is, especially on country lanes they'd often then pootle along at a slower speed than I was going. I had the GSi so I'd just overtake them when it was clear but it was pretty tiresome. I traded up for a Mitsubishi Grandis a couple of years ago because I needed more space and I don't get it so much for some reason?
