Hidden two Party Fours in the oven, of course! That muck was flatter than today's pancakes - but who cared...

I'll drink anything - not an expert, it's always nice to be surprised.

Ha!, if we are talking worst offenders, then I nominate Hartsman Lager from MacMullens.

I remember when Macmullens brewed that stuff, Hoppy hartsman they advertised it as, Steingold was another of their Lager failures. The people who drank lager didn't like them much either.

I don't drink ale often, but the nicest i've had from England is 'Bluebird', brewed up in the lake district. Lovely stuff. Oh, also, 'Nobbeys' just becuase it's brewed in a village near me (no, it's not connected with the nuts in anyway )

Oakleaf "Hole Hearted", a lovely strongly hopped pint from Gosport, CAMRA has agreed in the past too.

Today's tipple of choice was Hornbeam Brewery's "Denton Pride". Pale, crisp, hoppy. Rather moreish...

Tonight, to make amends i bought myself a bottle of ginger beer and 6 bottles of Young's Special and a couple of ordinary and am going to have a few real ginger beers.

What is the best British beer?

Dark Star Brewery Imperial Russian Stout or if you don't like bottled beers, their Porter.

The Hook Norton brewery caters for all.

Best bitter - light, session.
Old hooky - Lovely.
Double Stout - I've tasted worse.
Haymaker - a pale ale, very refreshing.
Twelve days - dark and strong, used to be a Christmas only ale but now, oh joy of joys, available all year round. hic!

Robinson's Old Tom is a good 'un, if it's still available. Dark and quite hoppy, and 8%. The problem is that it doesn't taste that strong.

Old Tom is still available, nice as a half and half with Best or Unicorn as they now call it. Deadly though!

Remember having a great pint of Bradfield Brewery Farmers Pale Ale the first time I met my sister's now husband. It was what we bonded over, so I have a soft spot for it (and an empty pint glass).

One of the up-shots of the loss of some of the classic breweries is that the head brewers from all these places are now brewing their own stuff again.

As in Wards of Sheffield has gone, but the head brewer is now running Bradfield. Ruddles has disappeared in all but name, but the man who used to make sure it tasted good is now running the Grainstore brewery in Oakham.

Deuchers IPA brings back some happy memories of Edinburgh. Good job that a defeat doesn't always ruin the day for a rugby fan.

Is Eldridge Pope's Royal Oak still brewed? That really was a great beer. I made a pretty successful copy of it once, back in the days when I made my own beer; I wonder if I've still got the recipe?
