Before we slag other road users off we should really put our own house in order.
I take it you haven't seen Silly Cyclists?

Here's another way of looking at it. Ive been like Steveindenmark, concerned how the idiot minority affect the majority in the eyes of others, as i said before, morally, he's right.
But rather than berate others, who's attitude probably won;t change anyway, i found myself being a better, more considerate, understanding cyclist, who will often make eye contact with drivers before manoevering, who will put a hand up in thanks to those that gave me some respect, who will allow a bus past at TLs, even if i was in front, just to let him about his way without hinderance, its better for all that way, etc etc etc. make a point of letting your local drivers know we're not all idiots.
Set a better example than average, rather than expect idiot (and sometimes just temporarily thoughtless) cyclists to do the right thing.
Even then, if no-one complains, nothing changes, so Steve has a point, just a different one.

The reason I posted it is that I often see posts on here where cyclists are berrating car drivers for driving too close, using phones while driving etc, etc, etc. We even appear to have an army of cyclists who have gone out and bought helmet cams to catch these villanous drivers in the act of misbehaving. It does get mind numbingly boring, because no matter how much we winge and moan about drivers things are not going to change. The same is with the cyclists who appear to think that the rules of the road were never meant for them.
I ride a bike, a motorbike and a car and I have seen total idiots on each of them. It is just the way it is and we need to accept that.
I am surprised nobody said that the film was shot in 2006 and we have all changed how we ride since then. Unfortunately it is not the case. I am glad the post raised a few talking points though.

In a way Steve, thats why i don't, or won't get wound up any more, because the all the bad stuff you see or hear comes from the minority, be they drivers or cyclists.
Letter columns are full of letters berating cyclists because they have no lights etc, and you can tell by the tone of the writer, they're avid anti cyclists, they spoil thier arguement by going OTT. Its the same minority of guys, with the same drivel, posted over and over. Thankfully, the complainers are (IMO) in the minority, shame they get airspace at all.
Youtube videos of poor driving against cyclists, but its not day to day reality. We all have a bad incident once in a while, for me, its maybe once every one or two years, thats all. The majority of the rest of the time, cyclings fine and dandy, with an occasional irksome incident mixed in.

What was that program everyone was talking about, the war on Britains roads, or similar...i refused to watch it, cos all its going to show is the very worst incidents, its not most peoples day to day, or even month to month reality.

Ah sod it, you're right in a way Steve, but on the grounds the video shows some pretty hairy stuff that most of us will never ever witness..its not one i'm going to get upset about.

Hardly surprising that you hear more about idiot car drivers than idiot cyclists, because it's generally the former who are potentially going to land us in casualty. Idiots on bikes certainly do exist, but as a cyclist, I can generally avoid getting stitched up by them simply by virtue of being faster than them (and being very careful when turning left) - it's not nearly as simple to escape the motorized variety

With that attitude of course nothing will change.

However, get working with the police and you can help towards making things better.

Do you really think this (pointlessly posted) vid is a typical representation??

Do you think that there's a driving forum and someone's just posted a video of some street racing saying that they should put their own house in order?

peanuts. If that's the way cyclists behave in London I'm in complete sympathy with the city's car drivers and would, if I lived there, be ashamed to admit I rode a bike. In fact I would be very tempted to run into somebody who rode at me in such an aggressive way.
So all London cyclists are bad and you have complete sympathy with all of London's drivers, and you want to either kill or injure someone?

No, I just like to see a bit of contoversy and lively debate. The Australian forum that I occasionally visit won't allow any heated debate or discussion of anything too controversial and will often put a stop to pretty tame debates. Australian's are not generally the easy going, laid back people that they portray themselves to be.
By the way I'm a bicycle riding, motorcycling, car and fire truck driving pacifist that was born in London and has sympathy for all London road users.

What shoes do you wear?

Mass murderer Harold Shipman wore black lace-up shoes.... does that make anyone who wears black lace-up shoes responsible for the actions of mass murderers?

I wasn't on CC when the alley cat film first surfaced but I've never seen anything but condemnation on other forums for the cycling it portrays. The only qualifications to this that I can think of are that some posters commented on the entertainment value and others on some of the bike handling skills. Though a quick search on CC using ''Brunelle'' and ''alley cat'' as search terms hasn't thrown up any results from the time, I'd be very surprised if there hadn't been equally heavy criticism on here. To the extent that those cyclists get classed as ''us,'' I suspect we're already at the ''after we criticise 'ourselves''' stage
