To the rider in blue, I think, climbing the steep side of Worts Causeway, Cambridge at 13:05 today. Yes I did see you & yes I did hear your response to me 'ignoring' your wave. But you know what. When I'm doing 45mph down hill on a kind of rough surface I'm NOT going to lift a hand off the handle bars, the best you'll is the quick nod you got so deal with it! </rant>

Sorry needed to vent.

You can't enforce friendliness! I don't understand why people get cross if you don't wave back, sure the waver might think you're being rude, but if they are short-sighted enough to judge your entire personality on such a fleeting instance then farkem

Exactly... for gods sake, so what if someone doesn't say hello back. It's not the bloody end of the world is it?

A woman raved at me for using my cellphone on the train and declared to the carriage that I was a damned inconsiderate idiot.

In return I politely declared that using a cellphone was her own definition of an inconsiderate act, and she might appear briefly foolish in the eyes of our fellow passengers for judging my entire life by one three minute phone call to my poorly wife.

When we got off the train two people congratulated me for my genial correction.

You heard *THAT* at 45mph? Fcuk me mate, you must have the hearing of a bat.
Not really, the reason you get a lot of wind noise at high speed is turbulence around the ears. Wear a lycra skull cap or a bandana that covers your ears & the wind noise is reduced considerably. I get about the same wind noise at 45mph with my ears covered as I do at 15mph without.

I was an observer to such a conversation between someone who had been talking loud enough for the whole carriage to hear and an elderly lady who was remonstrating with him about his manners. It finished the ending to end all endings from the elderly lady of "Well I intend to raise it in the House of Lords this evening"
