that's real sweet - those balance bikes are awesome for getting kids into cycling .... bet he doesn't need stabilisers when he goes onto a cycle with pedals ... he'll be off like a rocket!

He's on a Vespa - I'm sure it/he has an engine ;).

He's got good balance, though it looks like the bike will soon be too small for him .

Do they do balance recumbents yet  ?

Cheers all,

Much as I love recumbents, I'm not about to inflict one on young Ted. The Altina Estrellita looks to be about the smallest out there, and even that's age 8 and up. Besides which, like all good suburban parents, Evey and I strive for mediocrity. I'm happy for him to switch to something more laid back when he sees the wisdom in such a choice .

The little bike has really helped with his balance, and neither his mum or I are planning to put stabilisers anywhere near his next bike. There's another inch of saddle and bar height we can add to this one, and then its time for something new. I'm thinking small kids bike with the cranks removed (temporarily) until he gets the hang of braking. Then pop 'em back on and its open season

Oh and Gaz. You don't want a big one. Think how tight your aero tuck will be when your frame is as compact as this.

I hope you mean Altena Estrellita !

Altina Estrellita, on the other hand, is something rather different .....  :surrender: - and definitely NWS :headshake:

Right you are. My guess is that more people mis-type latina as altina than altena as altina. The search engines are just doing their bit to help us out.
Bad news for latinos though. Imagine your entire cultural heritage becoming a byword for porn??!?!

Anyway, yes, I meant this one: http://www.altena-bike.nl/index.php?id=281

Don't spose you know if they do those in bigger sizes? they look awesome fun.

They do:

Suitable for 10 years and up, to small adult apparently...

Or just find an old Raliegh shopper, and take the cranks and chain off.

My friend once jammed the chain on his Moulton, and had to ride it home on a bike path, scooting style, it was hilarious to watch asd he picked up speed. Partly because we'd been to a party and had a few beers...

Who says 'bents can't sprint?

I got into a race with an upright rider on the weekend. He was a lot younger than me, and a fair amount more maneuverable.
Even though he played dirty (swerving across my path, stopping, then pushing off at full tilt) there was no way I was going to let him beat me to the junction on the far side of the park.

I bet your competition learned his dirty tricks from his dad!
