I looked at that and it was very bulky and the reviews weren't great either.

I'll try it out after Christmas.

I ❤️ winter camping, especially overnighters, because they give us the present of long, dark, usually quiet night to completely de-stress, relax and be in the moment - with the luxury of getting home the next day

However, decent gear is the killer. A cold night in a tent is not a lot of fun.

Given that you're not going to use this until after Christmas (and the reviews aren't stellar) how about returning it and waiting until the post - Christmas sales to pick up something better? Or asking Santa for a voucher to increase your budget?

I'm not keen on down as I'm not sure I'd be up for the care they really need.

The use of a silk liner will improve the rating of any type of bag beit synthetic or down, I've used the Rab one for many years.
