Today on the way home I got overtaken by a very nice Ferrari, I managed to later catch up to it and had I the inclination to undertake it at 60kph. It was one of my silly little challenges but made me feel quite good, which got me thinking about what has made you feel best when cycling.

Mine was probably cycling down a long straight road and a moped overtook me but it was at its rev limit. I caught up with him / her and looked at them and shifted gear and went past them, probably around 50-55kph and stayed in front for about a mile.

The best feeling I ever had when I was cycling was on a commute home one day. It wasn't because I beat anyone or even because i'd smashed a PB or climbed a difficult hill... it was because it was Autumn (my favourite month), I was all snug in my thermals, cold air on my face, smell of bonfires in the air (local farmers I think), red rustic leaves on the trees and on the ground, and I came across the most amazing sunset as I rolled past the woods and down a hill... green fields stretching for miles, the sun had just disappeared over the horizon leaving red, yellow and orange swirls in the sky and the far off lights of Birmingham looked like someone had sprinkled glitter across the horizon. I stopped my bike and took the view in for a few minutes before the colours disappeared in the sky. I always wished I'd had a camera on me, but I don't think even a camera would have captured the "feel" and "smell" of it... so i'm glad it's just in my head. I've never forgotten it.

I did the Wiggle no exscuses sportive 2011. To get gold you had to do the 45 mile ride in under 2hrs 30mins. I knew I had a good chance of gold, I think I had to do 18 mph average. I got lost, missed a left turn and missed gold by a min, I was almost in tears. year after nailed it, gold and a top 20 finish. I was over the moon.
At school I was always the kid picked last at any sport but cycling for me has always been about guts , determination and the ability to just keep, which Iseem to have lot.

I get it often, when your cold wet and tired and you ride up your road and see your house!

Or,

Riding along the canal one evening in spring. Baby ducks, swans and many other types of ducks etc were all out in their pride. The ducklings were only the size of my hand if that!

One I'll mention is the day we picked up my OH's first bike since childhood. Cycling back from the shop the heaven's opened into one of those tropical-stylee summer rainstorms and in two minutes we were wet through and past caring about it. It was pure laughter all the way home and an instant baptism for my partner into how joyful it all was whatever the elements.

I always seem to puncture on the common Downfader (on my race tyres anyway!)

My old commute was Park Gate back to Southampton town center and it was a great route for smashing other cyclists, especially when detouring across the top of the South Downs! Maybe I have too much of a competitive streak in me...!

I misread the title as breast feeding when cycling!

Every time I ride to work or to the shops I get a little buzz. I don't know why, but every day I don't get in a car or bus feels like a success. I just love to get places under my own steam!
