Just wondering what the best light for £40 is, I'll be buying one on my next pay but don't really know what's available. Must be as bright as possible as it's obviously better to see in the dark.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I picked up a 900 lumen one for about £25

The cheap lights from DX et all are cheap for a reason however they are very good when working. My own experience has meant doing repairs on my DX one and buying a replacement battery, so in effect in the last year my £40 light has actually cost me £60 thus far. Still good value but might be best paying that wee bit more and buying from a UK seller.

Of course this is assuming you want a retina burning light ^_^If you want some pissy wee candle job then I`m sure you can pick up a Cateye or something similar for that money.

Will have a look, thanks.

And I need a retina burning light for definite, I'm hoping to get a light which lightens up roads as I commute down country lanes where there are no lights whatsoever.

I'd go for a couple Smart Lunar 35s - £19.32 each here

I have one of these as a commuting light in winter (rural Cumbria) and it's fine except for quick decents. Having a spare light would mean that you get far more light on the road (set one near and one far) and you have backup if one light dies when you are in the middle of nowhere

Chuck "bike light 1600 lumens" into eBay. It'll return about a dozen from China and Hongkers. A pal of mine picked up one of the HK ones recently and I am impressed. Über powerful, great beam, and the battery life is proving to be about double that claimed. All for £30.

I had my eye on the Moon300, but would it be better than two smart Lunars? And thanks for all the suggestions, if the posting wasn't so long, I would probably go for one from eBay

My vote's on the Keygos KE-1 torch. Far brighter than 2 smart lights in my experience.

I will say though (which I missed out in the review) that whilst the torch is excellent, the charger and batteries aren't of the best quality.

If you were to get this light, you could spend your remaining money on higher quality charger and batteries, as recommend by Torchy.

I'm still using the original batteries and charger, but I don't like to charge them unattended or whilst asleep.

Cheers, they sound dangerous though if you can't sleep whilst you nap. I'll see how things go, but most likely this light will be what I buy. Just the shipping time is an issue as I need the light quite quick.

I recently got a twin Cree Q5 set from Torchy's ebay account for £40, two torches, two brackets, two 18650 batteries with charger, and adapters for using AAA batteries if you need to - all working fine for a night-time commute. I should be on commission, this is about the third or fourth thread I've typed this.
