Best Inner Tubes

For what purpose?

Best for TT or racing won’t be best for endurance or commuting rides.

To be honest I've never thought about quality when it comes to tubes. Are they the right size? Yes? OK buy them.

One thing is that some brands (eg Continental) have removable valve cores and some don't. If you use a screw-on pump hose the removable ones have a nasty habit of coming unscrewed.

Indeed. Continental tubes and their flying cores are hateful!

Indeed, still have a stock of wiggle lifeline ones I used to buy to make up orders to £20 free postage if buying something cheap.

Vavert Inner tubes from Amazon. Cheap and cheerful, never had any problems with them in the many years and many cycling miles I ride both commuting and leisure.

This will likely be controversial, but personally I use and rate these:

*£15.99 each from Amazon (Only in 60mm valve length), touch less if you order 4 I think it is.

I run them in 28s, at around 75 psi max.

I've seen reviews from people that say they puncture often, but it seems to be for people who are forced (or choose) to run them at higher (100psi) pressures, seemingly down to a higher combined bike and rider weight.
I've ridden around ~1300km with no issues at all.

Biggest benefits for me are:

  • Retains air significantly better than any butyl tubes I have used (Really useful on a bike that is not used that regularly)
  • Lighter than butyl tubes
    • Has saved me and my bike a decent amount of weight, as I like to carry 2 spares, so I have the tube weight saving X 4, PLUS the much smaller tube size has meant I no longer need a saddle bag, as I can fit everything in the rear jersey wallet that I was using anyway.
  • Allegedly they have lower rolling resistance than butyl tubes as well I believe

*There are cheaper ones available on Aliexpress or similar, Ridenow seems to be the make of choice, and I have a few, but have yet to call on their services.

I usually buy Vittoria latex tubes these days, which if added to a basket containing 12+ "ready to ride" items, are ~£10 each at SigmaSports. Almost reduces rolling resistance to tyres using tubeless setup.

However, they only have a 48mm valve, so like on my VEL 50RL wheels you will need extenders (which can costy as little as ~£7 for the pair in the Sigma bundle)

Vavert are pretty good.

But honestly I just get the cheap inner tubes from Halfords - they used to do 3 for a tenner periodically and I stocked up - never had any reliability issues and they're cheap at about £4 full price.

Halfords branded one are as good as any.
Do you need 60mm valves? They are quite long, do you have deep section TT wheels?

These are the wheels I have (Bianchi and Giant). My Giant is tubeless but I'd like inner tubes as back up
