Hi guys,

Can anyone give me an idea of the best route from Dalgety Bay to Central Edinburgh. I've tried a couple of options but I think there must be a better way than the lousy A90 cyclepath.

I see a lot of guys cycling over the bridge as I'm on the train - with Brompton - but want to cycle the whole route more regularly.

Cheers

I`m in the Bay and cycle to the Gyle, there are now a few options to cycling over and back. The Kirkliston road is now very quiet and you can follow that all the way through and onto the airport road and follow the cycle path along towards Edinburgh. Another option is to head towards Kirkliston just outside Queensferry there is a left turn which takes you past the Royal Elizabeth Yard and then down towards the main road going from Kirliston and Crammond, ( the flyover just up from Crammond Hotel ) I`ll see if I can get the route on google maps for you to see.

Of the options it's looking like Burnshott Road way - then Queensferry Road into town.

I'll give it a go on Sunday and see how long it takes.

Thanks everybody. I still think the Brommie might be the most used bike tho :-)

I know it's only 16/17 miles each way but 5 days a week might be a bit much for this fella.

I used to follow NCN1 but through experience and thanks to the advice on here, coming from Ed to the Kingdom, I find I'm better to go along Burnshot Road or what ever its called (the road north of the airport) and the Queen Elizabeth yard, the A8000 and Queensferry's. I think its slightly longer than the crappy NCN1 but it takes about the same time as its vastly better.
My other alternative is a similar route but instead of by the QE yard I go through Dalmeny and up under the bridge.
I prefer the first option but the second one has the get out clause of passing the station if its too windy.

I don't know about the Dalgety service but I used to take the train from Dunfermline in the morning and cycle home at night; it made 5days practical for me, I used to by 10 single tickets (sold in a bunch there undated and cheaper).
