Best tyres for commuting/sportives etc

On the GP4000s Ive found the 23mm's fail often at the side walls and wouldn't use them for a commute but Ive had 25mm's on my commuter for 2500miles all through winter and got 1 p'ture, a few weeks back. The 25mm's have probably done a bit more as I did last year's Flanders on them :-) I have Mitch Pro 4 Endurance to replace them when they eventually wear out (great tyres IMO, roll almost as good and grip as good as the contis but much more robust and durable). I am looking for 25mm replacements for the contis for the up and coming summer for fast sportives and club runs but I can only see them in stock on one site and it wants to charge £12 more compared to the 23mm :-(

I'm looking for some better road tyres for my cx which currently have rapid rob knobbly 35s on currently. I'm looking at a zafirro vittoria. folding tyre 700x32 at around £12, any views?

I like Vittoria tyres. I have Rubino Pro 23s on my road bike. It came with Zaffiro 23s which were perfectly good. I'm hoping the Rubinos are tougher though.

At £12 that sounds like Zaffiro Pros. If you can stretch to £17.50 per tyre and don't mind going down to 28mm I can recommend Rubino Pros.

Ive had rubino 23s now 25s on my road bike but wanted something for comfort and occasional trail riding for my CX or else yes that would be a good choice, there is less available at 32s

Id be happy going up to around £17 if the jump in quality made it worthwhile, from my own looking round these seem the best deal unless there is a similar tyre ive missed?

How wide are your rims? IMO, you're best going for 28mm or 32mm slicks. The Vittoria will be good, I am using 28mm Conti 4 Seasons on mine.

In 35mm if your bike can take it
Got some of these myself recently and am liking them. Comfortable ride despite being pumped up hard, easy rolling and once past the first 40 miles or so they feel quite sure footed. from me so far.

these are my rims, how do i know what tyre i can get on them?

  • Rims: Mavic XM319 - 32 Hole
There should be a sticker on the rims with the dimensions like this:

You are looking for the ERTO numbers, in this case, 622x15 from a road bike, suitable for 23mm tyres.

My CX has 622x17 rims which gives me a minimum of 25mm tyres according to this table. 28mm was a more comfortable fit.
