Hi,

Im looking for a set of wheels for my Secteur. I will be keeping the mavic CXP22 and putting wet tyres on them for the winter.

Im looking for some new wheels for longer summer rides, and to be honest, a bit of bling! My maximum budget is £250, preferably lower.
Im 95kg so nothing too low on the spoke count!

The ones I have seen and like the look of are...

Ultegra 6700 http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+...s/Shimano+6700+Ultegra+Wheels+-+Pair_2111.htm

Mavic Ksyrium Equipe http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+...+Ksyrium+Equipe+Wheels_MAVICKSYRIUMEQUIPE.htm

Also, are these wheels REALLY so much better than the Fulcrum Racing 7s, or Mavic Aksiums for about £140?

They are lighter with better quality bearings. As always the law of diminishing returns applies, so you need to make that judgement for yourself.

I just invested in Mavic Ksyrium Elite (also from Merlin, who seem to have the best prices at the moment), and I really like them.

I think Merlin still have some 2010 Fulcrum 5s at a heavily discounted price so that might be a bigger bang for buck than the wheelsets you're looking at.

As you pay more then generally (and I stress generally) several things occur

1. The wheels get lighter at the rim (where weight counts most)

2. The hubs run a bit smoother

3. Spokes/Rims get stronger so you get less flex especially when out of the saddle.

4. Wheels will tend to be a bit more robust - so will stay in true better.

If you don't get out of the saddle much and are handy with a spoke key I'd recommend the Equipes.

Quoted this the other day, not sure where, but relating to the Fulcrum 5s (Merlins at circa £150)

Rider weight, its something i'd never thought about, but my manual states...
Riders under 82kg, no problem
Riders between 82 and 109kg, users must be vigilant and inspect the wheels regularly
Riders in excess of 109 kg, should not use these wheels.
