I have never bet.
I do not like lottery kind of betting as it is totally random and just down to your luck.
But the idea of betting on an intelligent guess appeal to me.
I would like to place following bets. Can someone please tell me how do I do that.
UK leaving EU
Geremy Corbyn surviving untill next general election
Chelsea FC relegated from premier league
Chelsea manger sacked before Christmas
England winning cricket tour in South Africa

But you can win sometimes. I won a box of biscuits in a raffle for the Church roof repair fund in 1989.:bravo:

No - not interested at all.

In fact, I am sick of the proliferation of betting adverts and having seen the results of gambling's devastating effect on two households I think they should be banned like ciggie ad's.
I completely agree. Betting shops always seem around the poorer streets - go figure. I don't like the organised acceptance of horse racing is simply a front for gambling and taking money from the poor to run a wealthy sport.

The only time I have ever won was betting at the races at Aintree in around 1997 (and that was pure luck). Other than that I have lost pretty much every bet (not many) I have ever made. Last one was the 2012 Grand National I think.

It is foolish to think you can beat the bookies - they make the book, they decide the odds - of course they will win !

I am pretty good at picking winners watching the horse racing. Like to see them in the paddock and just get a feeling for a winner. Trouble is never got any money on them.
However, helped my dad pick some winners when I was a kid, he won £1000, I got my cut, £5

Thanks. I now need to understand the meaning of those odds etc.

I use Bet365* and you can choose to show the odds traditionally or as decimals, so, for example 1/10 (10 to 1 on) will show as 1.10 (I.e. place a bet of £1 and get £1.10 back if you win).

*I imagine you can do the same at other bookies.

I never caught the bug.But my first bet was on a 'jumper' named Blue Dolphin. In the 60's BBC used to show Saturday afternoon racing. My dad like a 5/- bet.I had 3d on Blue Dolphin i got a total of 9d back.I was not impressed.I think it was for that reason i never took it up.

Over the last few years I'm well in front I did my losing apprenticeship in my youth ,I don't bet every day mainly on the big race meetings when all the horses are trying their best ,and correct score football which is only a fiver here and there but the profits are big when you get it right ,I havnt backed a horse for weeks the next time will be Kempton on boxing day

Including your losing apprenticeship are you in front or are you still recouping your losses?
