Yesterday my rear mudguard came loose, locking the back wheel and sending me over the handlebars.

The front fastners seem to have come undone allowing the tyre to rotate the mudguard under the wheel. It also smashed the stays into the rear brake pads.

If you hear your mudguards rattling don't wait till you get home, stop and investigate immediately.

but if you buy the right type of mudguard, they have safety features built in to prevent this

Fronts, yes, rears, less likely.

"The Rolls Royce of mudguards; they are virtually unbreakable". If that virtually doesn't include simply using them and watching the stay hardware fall apart, then the mudguards themselves delaminate, and finally snap. Still, I got another set, so they can't be that bad.

well just for reference...

i don't usually have a good word to say about halfords but this is one product i will recommend...

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_270315_langId_-1_categoryId_210163#dtab

made from satin black Polypropylene that won't de-laminate, they have quick release/pop out stays and look good.

i bought my second pair today and i only needed to replace them cos i had cut and joined and modified the original pair so many times as i swapped them from bike to bike and back that they finally started to look tatty.

only thing is they are quite wide.
