Remember changing my sons nappy. Was shocked to see grey poo, then realised it was a few hours after he had eaten a load of blueberries. ^_^

When I was a small child, I abhorred vegetables and salad.

One day, my mum decided, probably for my own good, that it was time for "kill or cure" and virtually force fed me salad. I hated it, but managed to get it down until she gave me a piece of beetroot (mum liked the kind that comes in a jar - with vinegar?). I barfed all over the place and have never again knowingly eaten raw beetroot. I may have eaten cooked beetroot in some kind of stew or food dressing, but would not eat it by choice, if it were in an identifiable form.

But I did eventually grow out of the "I wont eat any fruit or vegetables" phase, and do now eat most things. But not beetroot, thanks!

It's purple dung.
nope that is when you eat too many blueberries... don't ask how I know

Beetroot will also turn your pee purple, when I was at first school it was often fed to us on school meals,I can remember the exit now,I still love the stuff ,thinly sliced with goats cheese grilled but we always pickle a stack as well

My fella is mainlining the stuff at the moment as the doc has told him he needs to get his blood pressure down. He sees this as an easier way than losing the stone he needs to lose and cutting back on drink and salt.
We'll see.

I think it tastes like soil.

Now I'm a self-confessed lover of beetroot and I'm pleased that McGinty has been converted but I'm not sure it warrants resurrecting a 3 month old thread.
Well, since it has been resurrected ...

My sister gave me some home-grown beetroot last week which I cooked and ate some of a couple of days ago. I am still experiencing Beeturia. It is interesting that it can be an indication of iron problems in the body.

I liked the post because of the thought of home grown beetroot, Colin.....not because of any possible iron problems.
I always assumed that I must have been tested for anaemia at some point during my various hospital visits, but perhaps I wasn't. I don't eat meat, though I do eat fish once or twice a week. I might request that some extra tests be done next time I am due to have my blood tested.
I've advanced way past beetroot and I'm doing a whole roasted celeriac for Sunday dinner. :hungry:
That is something that I have never tried. What does it taste like?

A friend was recently raving about butternut squash, having just eaten his first. I discovered them years ago so it was no surprise to me.
