Bias reporting from the Daily Mail (once again)

The article later said "This year, eight cyclists have lost their lives in accidents in London"
She is understood to have been driving at under five miles per hour as she crossed Goods Way into the path of the teenage cyclist who was travelling downhill at a significant speed." " Police quizzed Miss Piper at the roadside, while the teenager received treatment from the London Ambulance Service for a severe shoulder injury... [Took out a bit where they changed the subject for a paragraph in the hope that no one linked these two statements] ...The Mail on Sunday understands that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet." " But there were also calls last night for cyclists to take greater responsibility for their actions and to ensure they wear helmets." From who? From the Daily Mail? From people in their office? From van drivers as they went past? Or from people who actually know anything about cycling? What a embarrassingly obviously skewed article. "Forced to pull out". Bloody cyclists, forcing poor old Billie Piper to not do some important acting because she was traumatised that she had pulled out into the path of a vulnerable road user. The irony is, if a cyclist had done that at 5mph into the path of a car travelling downhill at significant speed, they would be berating the cyclist for getting in the way.

To their credit, the Daily Mail did publish this quote.....

"Charlie Lloyd of the London Cycling Campaign said: ‘When doing a U-turn you are expected to give way to everyone.

'Every crash highlights the need for all road users to take care. Wearing a cycle helmet is a personal choice – the evidence is mixed as to the protection they provide.’"

I didn't find the article overly biased TBH, but I still wouldn't buy their paper, or any other for that matter.

I hope they charge her with dangerous driving, she would be charged if she'd done it in front of another car and probably in hospital as well. Poor lad, mind I bet he gets kudos from his mates lets just hope he gets a lot of compensation as well.

my second is why did she not check her mirrors well enough to see another moving vehicle before making herself a barrier in its way. Apols if that is mentioned in the article, I don't clickbait DM links.

The Daily Mail isn't the only paper that indulges in that kind of reporting though ...it's a symptom of the bigger picture that we've become so car focused that we find it difficult to consider any other way. Roads design for example is now so focus don motor transport that it regulates the planning of our streets and civic spaces (or lack of them), puts up barriers to crossing the road (for safety reasons obviously) and turns outdoor public spaces into through routes for motor vehicles, instead of encouraging folks to walk around, cycle or just play outdoors.

Why do you assume the first premise naturally implies the other?

If I say I don't like (random e.g.) Specialized bikes it does not automatically mean I like all other brands.
