This is on another forum, so apologies if you read both.

Some of you have noticed there's changes afoot at the chris667 camp.

I'm moving, because in October I want to finish my degree full time. The OU is great, but it will take forever, and as there's no work I fancy I'm going to study full-time. My dad's going to look after Lucky.

I've been careful with my UCAS choices to make sure they're all near a navigable river. I can find somewhere to moor anywhere in the country, more or less, but it can be a very insecure life. If there wasn't a mooring anywhere local, I'd be "bridge hopping", which is grand but can involve a lot of travel.

Then again, I could also move into halls, and sell Malliard of Joy. I'd more or less break even on her. I'd meet lots of people, and probably have a nice time. But would it do my head in living with students for the next three years after living with no-one but my dog for the last five?

Financially, owning my boat and renting a room are about the same. Boat may be a teensy bit cheaper, but there's not much in it.

What do you think?

Keep your boat, student halls may drive you mad and if you are a mature student (over 27/25 I think) the gap in mindest may prove too much, especially if youare used to being on your own.

The downside to this is that you my meet less people and may find it harder socially but the boat will make things more stable/easier once you're finished with uni.Plus if your UCAS choices are made in terms of where you can locate the boat-sounds like your decision is already made

Good luck and enjoy!

Keep the boat.
Go to Keele Uni for further study.
Sail through your exams...
...do whatever floats your boat.

Actually Chris, you are the object of envy I'm sure. Whether you want to be or not is neither here nor there but allow yourself the companionship of a dog if at all possible.

A boring question: I'm sure you've looked into this but do you have to do an entire degree or can you credit transfer some of your existing OU study into a degree programme? You can't do this through UCAS but you can prob do it by talking to individual university departments?

Oh yeah keep the boat.

No, it's not a boring question at all.

It isn't enough to give me credit for a whole year, but it is going to give me my entrance requirements.

Due to the almost spectacular arrogance I displayed as an adolescent, I have no GCSEs/A levels, having decided living with mum and dad was too boring and moving to London at 16. When I was 20 and suitably chastened by a procession of crap jobs, I went to Reading college and did a day release BTEC, but apparently it all happened too long ago for most places to count.

We love Kirstie for keeping things on an even keel.

I'd say keep the boat and plan other options around it. You'll have the option to socialise as much as you want and be able to retreat to the boat whenever.

Oh that's cool - just checking, like (some people on here know I work for the OU).

Aperitif I'm sure you intended to pun using that boat related metaphor. I certainly hope so.

Sorry I voted live with the students in the poll, because i didnt want to vote "flog the boat" ..... might want to relook at your poll options there

Keep the boat, don't live with the students. I wouldn't fancy living nextdoor to a mature student (rather the stunning big boobed blond my own age) just as much as they would appreciate being kept up till 3am every night.

Just to add, I have no problem with mature students at all, just rather live with people my own age.

Hope this helps

Do you really?

Can I just say the organisation you work for is **brilliant**. I'd not even be thinking about this if it weren't for the OU, just stuck doing my old job for the rest of my life. Thank you.

And if anyone else is thinking about studying something, my advice is to stop putting things off and do it. You couldn't make a better choice.

We aim to please . The students and what they achieve in their lives are an inspiration to the staff too.
