Cant pinpoint the cause..I use mostly MTB with slicks and folders and with them theres no problem but when for a change I go for a tour on my Dawes galaxy.especailly one with a few hills, I suffer bone spurr. bunion. gout like big toe pain a few days later and it cripple me sometimes till it eases off.I think the Galaxy maybe a little too small maybe 2" inches from my ideal.frame size so thsi may have something to do with it.I havent gout..

Any ideas please on whats causing it and is there anything I can do about it.as Im thinking of selling the galaxy

What are you wearing on your feet for riding? What pedals? Not sure why you'd get pain from the bike, more likely to be your pre existing issues?

Also have you spoken to a doctor about surgery for the bone spur, bunion and also this recent pain?

You can actually provoke an attack of gout through trauma if you are already susceptible. So if the distance you cover on the Galaxy is significantly more than your normal distances then it could indeed be gout brought on through the additional strain of the tour or footwear/pedals on the Galaxy. In which case it's time for a trip to your GP. However in my experience they are not well informed on gout treatment, I was lucky enough to be referred out to a specialist who sorted mine out.

Thanks for the replies..Can happen in either toe usually after hilly rides.(Dont want to show off but got it once before.in Japan a few days after pounding the roads up to Mt Fuji which got steeper as you approached it.)Hoping it was a common problem with cylcsts remeded by technique .bike size or pedal type. but its just old age creeping up.I suspect it will be either Bone spurr bunions artheritis or gout..

It begs the question can you keep cycling if you suffer these things ,As Tommy Cooper once joked " Doctor it Hurts whenever I.move my arm...."Doctor replied.Dont do it then....
Bone spurs and bunions can be removed, find a good foot surgeon, have you off the bike for a couple of months though.

He did say he doesn't have gout, that the pain is gout-like...I think that's what he said anyhow

If you have gout it can be triggered by anything from foods to trauma. He may well not have it but it's a simple blood test and one tick off the list of possibilites. If he does have it, it's easily treated and hey presto, no more pain.

Still talk to a doctor about the options. I broke my big toe into the joint a few years ago and fully anticipate it to become arthritic as all the medics said at the time

Unless covered privately, you'll probably be waiting some months for orthopaedic consultation and surgery any how, shouldn't impact an august holiday
