I wasn't asking for people's opinions on what is or isn't safe for MY dogs. That's for me to decide, and no-one else.

I was asking for recommendations of European suppliers of the specific kind of trailer I described in my first post. Obviously, no-one is able to help me with that, so I'll continue searching on google, and if I can't find anything more local, I'll buy from the US or Canada.

Sorry if I caused offence by trying to be helpful. I was making the point that its possible to use a crate as you planned inside one of the aforementioned fabric trailers. How am I to know if you'd already considered that as an option?

For the $900 (including shipping) let alone any import taxes couldn't you find a engineering firm to make what you want? Give them the dog boxes and they can probably come up with a better way of securing the box then straps.

Bikesatwork have no distribution network at all. But will ship to you are a stupid price (imo). I'd have to think if you had to send it back.

Triton (distributors for Surley) only ship to UK.

It wasn't you, Sara. You were just following along with the direction the thread had taken. I explained what I was looking for in my first post - 2 crates, bolted down, etc.

For what it's worth, the cost of buying what I want from the US or Canada isn't putting me off buying those options. I just wanted to find out if I can get the same cheaper within Europe. The alternative is to spend a few thousand euros on a car, with all the associated running costs, so $1000 for a trailer is a small amount by comparison.

I wouldn't trust a Spanish engineering firm to focus on the safety of my dogs. Spain has a culture of not giving a sh1t about animals.

I wasn't planning to use straps. My plan was to put a solid floor on the trailer, put a thin piece of metal inside the floor of each crate to reduce the risk of the plastic splitting, and bolt through all 3 layers to secure them. Belt and braces. (For reference, I also carry 2 spare tubes on every ride.)

Triton do ship outside the UK. It actually says in the delivery information on the page I linked to that you need to contact them for a delivery quote for international orders. In any case, there's no problem getting large items from the UK to Spain There are always people coming this way with space in vans that they're trying to fill.

The problem is that the advice given is both good and sound, even if not welcome.

The problem is that there are no trailers, or custom trailer manufacturers in the UK or Europe that make what you require.

As a result, the advice given was practical and referred to what is actually available.

The advice given mostly had no relevance to the original question. Useful answers would have been, "I don't know of any manufacturers in the UK or Europe that do what you want," or no answers at all would have told me the same thing. That would have led me to spend less time repeating myself, and I would have just got on and contacted Triton for a shipping quote. (I'm not trying to be difficult, rude or start arguments, but I spend a lot of time on forums, including this one in the past, and it frustrates me no end when people refuse to answer the actual question.)

As it is, I've contacted Triton for a shipping quote.

It's also occurred to me that I wouldn't need a load platform on the trailer. I could attach the crates using u/square bolts (the way car roof boxes are typically attached to the roof bars), especially considering that the crates will pretty much fill the load area on either of the off-the-shelf trailers I looked at.

How about a Cargo bike?

I think you set your mind on what you wanted way before posting any questions. You did state in your original post that you didn't want a fabric type as you felt they weren't safe enough. Apparently thousands think they are safe enough for their kids.

But, it's your choice. We were just trying to be helpful and suggest some options for you. Maybe we thought you hadn't considered some of them.

IMO your question was answered. I wasn't aware that we had to answer it to the level you wanted. Maybe you could revisit our posts and give us some scores? I spend 10 mins looking for trailers that were made or distributed in Europe. I found none for the design you want. I reckon Belgium or the Netherlands is the best place in Europe for what you want.

It would have been far better if you'd not said anything in post #15.

Didn't dare to go so far away from the requirements!

I am not convinced that offering advice within the constraints of what is available is " refusing to answer the actual question"

I am afraid that given the fact that you are only willing to accept answers to reinforce a decision you have already made, feel free to spend your money on an expensive option, and I hope that you are happy with your purchase.

To quote the Dragons...... I am out!

The cargo bike? Yea. Deliberate tbh.

.. or a trike... this is mine

Now these I do like. Electric drive?

Yep.....

My wife is disabled, and has an electric assist recumbent trike which

However when we get places she is limited to what she can do,.

The Christiana can take her mobility scooter.... but at nearly 60 kg in dead weight, the assist is useful for hills.
