Whenever I park my bike I usually see other bikes with lights, bungee cords, (etc) left on them. I always remove mine, am I being over-cautious?

Bungee cords, maybe, but I would never leave removeable lights on my bike, or a pump or a saddle pack or anything else that will stick to someone elses sticky fingers.

It depends. I leave cheap lights and bunjees attached. Also have a seatpost bag with spare tube, cheap multi tool and gloves in it that I leave attached. Pump I keep in my handbag!

My panniers and basket are either screwed on or cable tied in place. Not totally unstealable, but rather difficult I imagine.

If I'm leaving it in a public place I take my expensive light with me.

The only thing I've had stolen was a cheap rear light, stolen by one of my colleagues in the locked bike shed at work.

The bungee on the pannier rack stays on, plus one cheap rear light. Everything else- Cateye, panniers etc comes with me even for the briefest of stops.

I take off the front light (as it's an LED torch style one, only held on by a velcro strap), but leave the back light and panniers on. I also leave an under saddle pack on, with an inner tube and tyre levers in it.

Touch wood, the only thing that has ever been taken was the spare inner tube from the under saddle pack. The thief left the actual saddle pack in place.

But the tube itself was one I had found by the side of the track whilst out on my MTB a while ago. I guess it had fallen out of someone's rucksack or pocket. So maybe it being taken from me was actually karma.......

I take the bottle and pump off and of course the pannier bag! Don't bother with lights, or computer - former because currently they are pretty cheap, latter because I can never unclip it and whenever I do, the next time I ride there is always a risk it'll fly off!

I park mine outside work for 8 hours. I leave my lights on and so does everyone else. No bother or reported bother that I know of.
