Basically the title of the thread is my problem, as i pedal with the front sprocket in the largest gear, the chain is catching on the gear changer.

This is the gear and chain specs:

Front Derailleur:Shimano 2300Rear Derailleur:Shimano 2300Number of Gears:16Shifters:Shimano 2300 STIChainset:Shimano 2300 CompactChainrings:50/34Bottom Bracket:Sealed cartridge, square taper, 68mmCassette:Shimano HG-50, 8-speed, 12-25Chain:KMC Z51
Although i love riding bikes my technical nouse about them is close to nothing so im not sure what i should tighten/loosen. I know its hard to help me without seeing a picture but any info would be great

had something similar when I first got my triban 3. For me the problem was slightly worse in that the front derailuer was physically touching the largest chain ring when the bike was on the middle chain ring. had to move the entire mechanism up the seat post by a touch and take in the slack off the gear cable.

If your technical ability is not great, then a quick visit to an LBS would be the best bet.

Which side of the front mech is the chain rubbing against?

If it is the left side - have you got a trim on the front shifter(a small corrective click which moves the front mech a fraction).

If it is the right side then the front mech has to move further over- check the limiter screws.

Thanks for respsones.
It still catchs if im on a middlish cog at the back and the big cog at ther front so i think its the limiter. Been messing around with the screws this morning to not much avail, unless i have to force it into place and hold it steady while i tighten? It just felt quite flimsy when i had a feel around

Would rather try and fix this myself than take it to a bike shop as i need to get better at repairs

If it is a band on (there is a metal band around the seat tube) then it may just need straightening. Undo the nut slightly and turn the mech. Then re- tighten.

Yes this is whats wrong, i see it now. The problem is can't manouvre it because the wire thats trapped between one of nuts and washers does not aloow much movement, should i loosen that and feed more wire through?
