Bike commuter changing facilities??

Office building. No showers. No specific facilities for cyclists. No secure bike storage so my bike lives at my desk (I'm ready for any challenge to that!). I get changed in a cold, drafty toilet. I've only ever known of two other cyclists in the entire place - now there's only one other left.

In answer to your question, it hasn't got better for me!

I've been commuting for over thirty years and have never showered when I've got to work, I've nearly always cycled in in my work clothes, The only place I worked in with facilities to shower and change was the chemical factory, the showers there were there in case of spills, and you were not allowed on the shop floor in your outside clothes, and not allowed outside of the factory in the clothes you wore on the shop floor.

In the office re-fits we've done, we have always argued and planned for changing rooms, including showers and lockers with covered cycle stores in the car park but it has proved difficult when, after spending the companies' money, a handful of people use the facilities.

When one or more of the directors of companies are cyclists, it filters through the company because cycling is then respected.

Just wondered how many of you who commute have facilities to change/shower etc. ......

I do, at several offices in the area, although I am always based at one. Luckily my commute is short and flat so I never shower although I do change of course

I have used the showers though, uprising how convenient it is to have one esp if you want to go out straight after work

I usually arrive in a bit of a sweaty state after an 8 mile commute. No shower facilities so I rely on running my head under the cold tap, wet wipes (fantastic) a liberal application of deodorant and fresh underwear and top. Never had any complaints in 10 years of this routine.

To those that shower when they arrive at work ... if they then have to cycle to another work location or go out on the bike at lunch time do they then have to take another shower and then another when they get home? I don't find I have to have a shower after every cycle ride and I like to think that I'm not causing a major whiff in the office  (I will admit to not managing the high speeds of some of the folk on here!).

I don't really see the need to shower, I ride 7 miles, and although sometime arrive sweaty a quick spray change of clothes does the job, unless my co-workers are too polite to say anything

Try proposing it from a safety welfare position. H&S reulations state that workers should have suitable provisions to allow changing into a recognised work uniform. If you cycle to work through a downpour you cannot be or would not be asked to sit in your soaking wet outdoor attire. Therefore a room to change should be provided.

my ride in is 4 miles so I can do it in civvies sometimes, cycling kit if I'm going out to play after or the weather is minging though

I change in the loo (only loo and is a disabled one so massive - also store cupboard though ) but I'm the only one there and have served customers in lycra. I often keep my shorts on and just chuck shorts or trousers over the top and swap my jersey for a t shirt after some 'airing' time and deoderant.

My commute is just under yours at about six and a half miles each way, thirteen mile round trip, I just ride easy and don't work hard enough to get sweaty, its using the bike for transport not trying to set a PB in the local club time trial, there's no need to go that hard, it normally takes about twenty five minutes each way.

We have a building with around 500 employees in (many of whom live within 5 miles) and space for 8 bikes. Only a couple of us cycle regularly and as my ride is only 6.5 miles (albeit all uphill in the morning) i can settle for a wash in the sink.

Barnet,
Where I work we have showers, a drying room, each of us has their own locker and a room we can use for bike storage. I think we are quite lucky. Out of about a hundred staff, there are only 4 that cycle to work.
