My cycle computer got crushed yesterday,i was fiddling with it then it flew off its base onto the road. I stopped about ten yards down the road, dropped my bike on the grass verge ran and tried to retrieve it before the oncoming car arrived. Too late,i heard the crunch just as i was about to swoop, leaving me to pick up the thing. It was only a seven quid supermarket one but it told me all i wanted to know including my overall miles on the latest bike, which have now disappeared as i didn't write them down in case of such mishaps! :cursing:
I've been working out how many items have fallen from me while on the bike or the bike itself that have ended up being crushed before they could be rescued. So far i've thought of the aluminium drinks bottle that went with a bang, the front light, the lunch box from my rucksack, and sunglasses that have slipped off due to sweating.
Anyone else feel that once it's dropped off you've lost it,and what have you lost?

What's fallen off? Me, about five times when I forgot I was clipped in. A Cateye back light that avoided being run over but got smashed up by gravity. A two week old pair of £ 50 prescription glasses that fell out of my jacket pocket somewhere on Kensington High Street. My D lock that jumped out of its frame bracket on Putney Bridge was recovered intact. That's just for starters.

Last summer on an evening hooligan ride we diverted a short distance to the pub so I just unclipped the Cateye computer and slid it forward so as to disconnect it and ensure I only recorded the ride; had a pint in the sun, raced home and realised.... no computer; I'd forgotten to re-engage the clip and it had fallen off. So I retraced my route and there it was, lying in the tyre worn part of the narrow lane where a car would have crushed it, had any car passed in the last 30 minutes! It's quiet where I ride.

I lost something once riding down Mt Dandenong. Its memory card survived the impact, naturally, or I wouldn't have been able to post the video.

I got to work once only to find one of my two panniers had not completed the journey with me. i doubled back a few miles but never saw it again. It was a cheap and cheerful pannier and luckily my wallet and important stuff were in the other one so I only lost an old pair of shoes and some clothes.

Oh no!
I have a cheap cycle computer which is several years old on my bike, and I'd be gutted if I lost or broke it.
The only thing I have ever had come off my bike is the front mud guard - it's one of those that fits into the fork tube of my MTB and it's not a very good fit - a couple of times it's come off when I've bumped the front wheel hard

My Garmin 705 got crushed by a car a year ago. It still worked AND recorded my ride for the day!

The screen was completely borked though.

I remember when I went for a quick ride, I got home and realised my new pump had fell off, so I got in my car and drove back down the route. There she was, sat in the middle of the road un touched, I pulled up got out of the road an started to jog over to it when Bam!!! Someone ran over it right in front of my eyes, I almost cried. To think it survived an hour sat in the road to just die right in front of me.

Had my 'puter come off while descending rapidly. Went back to the bump that threw it but no sign of it at all. Must've bounced off into the hedge.

I'm old enough to remember no computers  but these days I feel naked without one
