Bike Counter clocks 15,000 cyclists in a week

Almost 15,000 cyclists have been recorded by a bike-counting sensor buried in a road in East London – in less than one working week.

Don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but ths counter in Denmark shows 7000 more per week pass this counter in the snow.

So, before we get all self-congratulatory, and sharing long hot showers with each other, just realise our present level of cycling (although any level is better than nothing) is still woefully pathetic compared to our close European cousins.

Impressive though it is, the Danish counter is on a busy route. If I remember correctly, the Hackney one is on a fairly narrow dedicated path that doesn't count the many road-faring cyclists in the locality. The CS7 might give very different figures to the Hackney cut-through.

OT: do all the Danish cyclist's use winter tyres? I know the cars have to by law in winter, but none of the cyclists in the clip seem to slip n slide in the snow.

No, I am saying our current level of cycling, although good, is still not anywhere near where it could be.

that's a busy route, straight from Broadway Market, London Fields, to Hackney Road and The City.

Maybe it's because of the off-peak time of day that I've been on it but it certainly hasn't been what I'd call busy.

it's probably the main route from Hackney to the City, apart from Kingsland Road. You're right though, Hackney Road would probably have a higher count cos it would include those coming from The east.

What a great idea! If only to show car drivers just how many less cars there are (and hence less traffic for them to sit in) because of us. Maybe it would help to offset the upset caused by the loony cyclists who give us all a bad name?
