So I'm going to be commuting to college in September, and my college being what it is doesn't have sheltered bike rails (which is freaking annoying), meaning that come the wetter months I'm going to need a small, portable bike cover for my bike (preferably one that I can fit into a saddle bag/handlebar bag), can anyone make any recommendations?

The bike I'm going to be using was sold was a mountain bike, but is more a hybrid (it's a Giant Boulder 2005), made from aluminium, do you think it's worth getting a cover, or simply just covering the seat with something waterproof, baring in mind that the bike will be there for around 9 hours twice a week. (My lectures are 12:00/13:00 - 21:00), thanks for the suggestions!

Seigi.

Here's a news flash...apart from carbon, bikes are waterproof. Supermarket carrier bag over the saddle, make sure there's enough lube on your chain and moving parts of your mechs and it'll be fine. Just make sure it's dried off before putting it away. This is also the only time I would advocate the use of WD40.....to disperse water.

Carbon bikes, on the otherhand, melt in the rain. Fact. Cos I was told so by someone who knew someone with a brother in law who worked with someone who had a carbon bike.

It'll get wet enough on a damp commute to negate the benefits of covering it during the day. Couple of paper towels from the gents to wipe off the seat, then away you go. A good weekly maintenance routine will be time well spent.

Here for rides.
Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op do an own brand one. £16 to you. I use one for the pub bike as there isn't enough room in the shed at home for that one!
